Marvelous integrates with Mailchimp. Once you've connected the two, every new student who creates an account on your Marvelous site is automatically added to your chosen Mailchimp audience — so you can send them newsletters, automated sequences, and more.

Step 1 — Find your API Key in Mailchimp

Log in to Mailchimp and navigate to your account settings to find your API key. Mailchimp's UI changes occasionally, so for the current step-by-step path, see Mailchimp's official docs on API keys.

If no API key exists yet, click Create A Key to generate one. Copy the key — you'll paste it into Marvelous in the next step.

Step 2 — Connect Mailchimp in Marvelous

  1. In your Marvelous dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations.

  2. Click the Mailchimp tile.

  3. Paste your Mailchimp API Key into the field.

  4. Click Update and connect Mailchimp.

Step 3 — Choose your default list (audience)

Note: What Mailchimp used to call "lists" they now call "audiences." Marvelous still labels these "lists" in the dropdown — but they're the same thing as your Mailchimp audiences.

Choose your default list. When a new student creates an account on your Marvelous site, Marvelous will add them to this list automatically — whether or not they've purchased a product. For most teachers, this is the audience for their main newsletter.

Important: You must create your audience(s) in Mailchimp before they'll appear in the Marvelous dropdown.

Step 4 — Product-specific lists (optional)

If you'd like to send a series of emails to students who sign up for a specific product, you can add them to a different audience based on what they purchased.

For example: students who buy your membership get added to a "Membership" audience, and you can send them a monthly newsletter through Mailchimp. Students who buy your 4-week course get added to a "4-Week Course" audience that triggers an automated email sequence.

Removal from a list

If a student does not purchase a product, finishes a course, or stops a recurring subscription, Marvelous will not remove that student from any of your Mailchimp audiences. Removals need to be managed inside Mailchimp directly.
