How to Cancel a Student's PayPal Subscription

How to cancel a student's PayPal subscription from your PayPal Business account.

If you use PayPal as your payment processor, canceling a student's subscription requires an extra step in PayPal. Unlike Stripe, PayPal does not allow third-party platforms like Marvelous to cancel subscriptions directly β€” this must be done from within your PayPal account.

Step 1 β€” Cancel the order in Marvelous

Go to the Orders tab, find the student, click the 3 vertical dots next to their name, and select "Cancel order." This stops their access at the end of the current billing period but does not stop PayPal from processing the next payment.

Step 2 β€” Cancel the subscription in PayPal

Quickest method: Go directly to paypal.com/myaccount/autopay and log in to your PayPal Business account.

Or follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your PayPal Business account.

  2. Click "Activity" at the top of the page.

  3. Under "Transaction Type," choose "Subscription Payments" to filter the list.

  4. Click on the student's name in the transaction list.

  5. Click the 3 dots on the right side and select "Cancel Subscription."

  6. Enter a reason for the cancellation, then click "Cancel Subscription" to confirm.

  7. The status should change to "Canceled."
