If a student forgets to apply a coupon to a purchase of a recurring priced product (like a membership) you can add the coupon after the purchase and process a refund on their first purchase.

For fixed-priced products, you can simply process a partial refund in Stripe without applying a coupon. Please our article on processing refunds in Stripe here.

Creating a Coupon in Stripe

  1. Click on Product Catalog on the left, then go to the Coupons tab and click New on the top right.

  2. Fill in the details of the coupon, such as Name, Type, and Duration. Click on Create Coupon once done.

Adding the Coupon

  1. Click on Subscriptions on the left then on the student's subscription on the right.

  2. Click on Actions on the top right then go to Update subscription.

  3. Click on Add coupon and select your coupon from the drop down.

  4. You'll now see the coupon on the subscription. Make sure to click on Update Subscription at the bottom. You can also select Schedule Update if you'd like the changes to take effect on a specific date.
